How Can Journaling Help You Grow as a Person
Journaling helps you grow because it forces you to slow down and actually look at your thoughts. Let’s be honest, most of us walk around with a bunch of thoughts we never really observe deeply.
But putting those thoughts on paper makes you notice patterns you would otherwise miss. For example, maybe you’re always dating men with the same red flags.
Once you see those patterns, you won’t be able to ignore them. And that’s the whole point of self-growth and changing your life.
What Should I Write About for Self Improvement
I’ve noticed that the best thing to write for self improvement is about the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
Vague goals like “I want to be better” don’t give your brain anything to work with. So you’ll never see any huge changes in your life.
So instead, write about the habits you want to build, the beliefs or people that are holding you back, and the moments when you keep choosing comfort over growth. The more specific (and honest) you get, the more useful journaling becomes.
I believe the best self improvement comes from asking yourself uncomfortable questions and going deep into answering them. If a prompt makes you squirm, that’s usually the one worth writing about.
How Do I Become the Best Version of Myself
You can become the best version of yourself by getting honest about your current habits, boundaries (or lack of them), and people in your life. Then slowly build new ones daily.
The way I see it, becoming your best self is about a hundred small choices you make daily. For example, it could be choosing to go to bed at 9 PM (I do that daily), standing up for yourself no matter if your friends like it or not, and also being willing to look at your own flaws. But don’t feel any shame about them…just try to do better next time.
That’s why I shared these journal prompts. They’re meant to help you with exactly that. They’ll help you notice where you’re stuck or unsure, and what you should work on.
What Areas of My Life Should I Work On
The areas that are worth working on are usually the ones you feel resistance to writing about. You’ll probably feel fear or just some unpleasant feelings.
Here are some common areas:
- your self-talk,
- your relationships and friendships,
- your daily habits,
- and how you handle setbacks.
If you’re not sure where to start, pick the category above that made you feel a bit uncomfortable.
